Looking at Album Arts of 2010

Here are some interesting album arts from the year in music of 2010, ranging from all sorts of music that came out all year.

Pocahaunted - Make it Real

the cover of this Pocahaunted record is so vivid and bright and it stands out so well.  there’s so much going on too; I feel like I see something new every time I take a glance.  this cartoon-ish art is guaranteed to catch anybody’s eye who is browsing through a record store.

Jaill - That’s How We Burn

nothing screams “indie!” like this girl with the silly dolphin hat walking along the beach.  it definitely makes you wonder what the music would sound like.

Weed - DC Hope EP

this hazy cover art is pretty retro looking.  looks like this dude is having some car troubles.

Monster Rally - s/t EP

nothing like a crowded beach in the midst of a scorching summer sun.  that lifeguard better pay attention.

Brain Idea - the Survival Scrolls

if you’ve listened to Brain Idea, you should know right away how accurately this picture encapsulates their sound.  it’s really hard to explain it though - it’s just one of those things.  maybe it’s that mysterious, never-ending ocean background. but that light bulb is certainly a fitting addition.  think about it.

The Samps - s/t EP

another stand-out and vibrant album art.  cloud bricks, a never-ending purple abyss, and creepy green witch hands…with fiery red painted finger nails.  this one would also catch some eyes wandering around a record store somewhere.

Mount Carmel - s/t

definitely musically under-appreciated this year, but pretty cool looking album art.  it has a cartoon-ish vibe, and if you were one of those dudes on the horses that view would be nothing short of breathtaking.

Mi Ami - Steal Your Face

pretty sure that’s supposed to be Bob Marley, but that picture is about as warped, mutated and hectic looking as the frantic Mi Ami sound you know and love.  spot-on!

The Golden Boys - Electric Wolfman

aaand this one here doesn’t really need an explanation.  just look at it!  it speaks for itself!  moving on!

Free Energy - Stuck on Nothing

another highly recognizable cover art from 2010 - obviously corresponding with the title of the record.  I’m sure I didn’t need to tell you that.

Javelin - 2 EP

the way Javelin released their second EP “2” on Thrill Jockey this year was quite unique.  they pressed only 500 of the record, and whoever wanted to participate had the opportunity to send in any record sleeve in the world, and they would screen print the Javelin name on front, and there you have it - a brand new home for your new Javelin record.  this means they had exactly 500 unique album arts for one album.  pretty cool.

Circle Pit - Bruise Constellation

this one has that same grungy, angsty vibe that sometimes comes through in Circle Pit’s music.  definitely works for their sound, and it may even give you an idea of what you’ll hear on the album.

Happy Birthday - s/t

this one is so simple and so iconic.  it works so perfectly because every time you see it you should only think one thing: “happy birthday!”  definitely one of the most recognizable album arts from 2010; my personal favorite as well.
