Sooooo I’m trying to sell this brand new Zune HD on Craigslist, and I got an e-mail from this dude who wants to send me $390 bucks for the Zune HD (which costs $250), with money included for shipping to his son in West Africa who works for Shell Oil Company. So okay, why not look into this? I got nothing to lose, right?
I asked the dude for his phone number, but he said he left his phone somewhere and nobody would answer it even if I tried calling his number (I didn’t bother trying, but he did supply a number). The funny part is, at the end of each of his e-mails, it says “sent from my Verizon wireless mobile phone”. So yeah, strike one.
Then he says he’s sent me my money via PayPal, and I get these completely phony confirmation e-mails from the “PayPal Team” saying he’s paid for his Zune and that my money order won’t be dispatched until shipment of the Zune has been verified.
Basically the e-mail says he’s sent me my money, but when I check my account, I’m not $390 dollars richer.
I kind of had a feeling something like this was going to happen when he offers me almost double the price I’m asking for. It just blows my mind that so many people fall victim to these completely obvious and ridiculous scam attempts. This is why eBay is my #1…<3
